Frequently Asked Questions — Kitchen Extract & Duct Cleaning
Common questions about our kitchen extract & duct cleaning service
How often should restaurant kitchen ducts be cleaned?
It depends on how heavily the kitchen is used. Under TR19 Grease guidance, heavy use (12-16 hours per day) calls for cleaning every 3 months, moderate use (6-12 hours) every 6 months, and light use (2-6 hours) every 12 months. We can advise the right interval during a free survey.
Is duct cleaning required for my insurance?
Most commercial kitchen insurance policies require regular professional cleaning of the extraction system, evidenced by certification. We provide before-and-after photographic reports and a certificate of cleaning you can pass straight to your insurer.
Will we have to close the kitchen during cleaning?
No. We normally clean overnight or outside service hours so your kitchen is ready for the next shift. We agree timings with you in advance to avoid any disruption to trade.
What is TR19 Grease?
TR19® Grease is the UK industry specification for the cleaning of grease-contaminated kitchen extract systems. It defines how systems should be cleaned, how grease levels are measured, and what documentation should be provided afterwards.
Do you install access panels?
Yes. Where ductwork can't be fully reached, we can install access panels so the whole system can be properly cleaned and inspected — a common requirement flagged in fire risk assessments.
Do you clean the canopy and filters as well as the ducts?
Yes. A full clean covers the canopy, baffle filters, grease traps, internal ductwork and the extract fan, so the entire system is degreased from cooker to discharge point.
